What is Amnesty International?

Amnesty International is human rights organisation with 2.8 million members in over 150 countries around the world. It works independently and impartially to promote respect for all the human rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Amnesty’s work involves promoting awareness of human rights abuses and opposing specific abuses of human rights through research and action.

“We are ordinary people from around the world standing up for humanity and human rights. Our purpose is to protect individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied.”
